Refer to the owner’s manual for more information about replacing the lamp. Sony notes that for projection TVs, a dim or dark picture may be an indication that the lamp needs to be replaced. If it is a projection TV, consider replacing the lamp. View programming from a different source, such as a DVD player or VCR, to see if the issue is being caused by the device providing the signal to the TV.ĥ. Turning off the Automatic Brightness Control may increase picture brightness.Ĥ. Some TVs have a Light Sensor the picture will become brighter or lower depending on room lighting conditions. Example of setting method: Select Settings – System Settings – Eco and set Power Saving to Normal, and then check whether the problem is resolved.ģ. If Power Saving is set to Low or High, the screen becomes dark. Doing some research to answer your question, I came across this quote from Sony’s support page: I’ve received some comments expressing skepticism that stores would do this (including one from a retailer), which is why I can address this question again. However, as I noted in that article, brighter is not always better you can lose picture details and color if you turn up the brightness too much. Suffice it to say that It’s a big TV requiring a fairly large amount of wall space.I touched on this in our TV Answer Man feature, ‘How Stores Trick You Into Buying a TV.‘I wrote that retailers sometimes purposely tune the sets (all sets, not just Sony sets) on the show floor to look brighter to attract the attention of shoppers. Then again, I don’t know what you do in the bedroom, so ignore my comment. It’s large by most standards, and definitely more in line with home theater than bedroom use. The picture is very good with real world material, especially HDR, though a few rough edges showed up in our stress tests. For about $1,000 more than entry-level TVs of this size, it delivers both a tremendous number of nits and quantum dot color. Vizio’s PQX-series smart TV (the 85-inch P85QX-J01 is reviewed here) is the unique beast in the product line we mentioned in our earlier PQ9-series review, delivering three times the brightness of that 65-inch model. Vizio’s PQX-series (model P85QX-J01) pushes nearly 3,000 nits for highly impactful HDR, but it presents more image anomalies than its smaller, less-bright PQ9-series stablemate. this will finally bring up the Backlight Control as the very last setting. Auto Brightness: Off: Brightness: 54: Black Detail: High: Contrast: 92: Smart Dimming: On: Color: 53: Reduce Signal Noise: Low.
